Emspace

Sparking a Creative Career

April 1, 2019

It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the end of our seventh year of Forge. Much like the 57 alumni who precede them, Emspace + Lovgren knows our 2019 class of Forgers is destined for success with their early passion and drive for the world of communications. Say hello to our 11 students who are ready to hit the ground running!

Jazmyn Brown

University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Public Relations/Advertising

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? The different components (learn, think, do) are important. Learn is probably the most important in getting ROI.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Get an internship outside of your comfort zone. Make connections. Build a network.
  • Secret talent? I’m good at darts and playing two truths and a lie.

Megan Engel

University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Public Relations/Advertising

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? Creative session: learned that letting the client have a seat at the table helps make sure you are on track and don’t waste time by creating something that won’t work. Also, it’s best to remove yourself for a moment (take a walk, etc.) and then go back to get your creativity back.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Travel to a country whose native language isn’t your own; immerse yourself in that culture.
  • Secret talent? Losing socks. My feet never match.

Taylor Hays

Southeast Community College, Graphic Design & Media Arts

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? My biggest takeaway from Forge is that you can always learn from those around you, whether it’s someone who is more experienced, on the same level, or less experienced.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? I would recommend everyone tries something they would refuse to do with no good reason why if not just to gain the experience or find out why you won’t do it again.
  • Secret talent? I can play the French horn, trumpet and piano.

Sumit Jagdale

University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Public Relations/Advertising

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? This was a good decision.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Travel to New Mexico.
  • Secret talent? Drive for hours without tiring.

Brian Lai

Creighton University, Graphic Design

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? My biggest takeaway from Forge is the importance of networking. Jump on any opportunity to work in a team setting, because the exposure you get to other likeminded individuals and the connections you make have the potential to resonate throughout the course of your career.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Cronuts at Olsen Bakery off of 10th St. — only sold on Friday mornings. You’re welcome. 😉
  • Secret talent? My secret talent is my affinity for music. I DJ locally as well as create dance/electronic music in my free time.

Philly Nevada

University of Nebraska Omaha, Public Relations/Advertising & Graphic Design

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? How to retain integrity and be a good person AND professional.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Volunteering at a homeless shelter.
  • Secret talent? Picking up languages quickly.

Kayleigh Oxford

University of Nebraska Omaha, Public Relations/Advertising

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? Learning is lifelong, so it’s important to always find new opportunities to grow (both in work + personal life).
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? To complete a Bob Ross painting.
  • Secret talent? Knowing a copious amount of celebrity gossip.

Virgilio Rodriguez

Creighton University, Graphic Design & Computer Science

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? Procrastination makes you sharper.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Put some wasabi on your soy sauce.
  • Secret talent? Is being lactose intolerant a talent?

Lea Swatosch

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? All of the real-life advice for communicating and dealing with clients.
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Move somewhere where you know zero people.
  • Secret talent? Cooking

Okina Tran

  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Taking a theater class.
  • Secret talent? I can run for a very long time without stopping.

Zoe Welch

Creative Center, Graphic Design

  • What has been your biggest takeaway from Forge so far? How many parts go into a project, and how many amazing people are involved in this design community!
  • What’s something you recommend everyone try at least once? Learn how to play an instrument, or at least make some noise from one!
  • Secret talent? I’m a master architect in Sims 4!
